New PB Rudd from the River Cam

Here It Is, my River Cam Rudding Fishing PB - 3lb 1oz of beautiful golden rudd. I spent this summer searching the river for something really special, and eventually I found it. There’s plenty to enjoy about a summer on the bank, but seeing a fish like this in the bottom of the net is certainly a lovely way to round off that search.
A summer searching for golden rudd
This wasn’t a summer defined by just one fish. Along the way there were dozens of rudd over 2lb, and they deserve their moment too. I’ll post those at some point, because they were equally as stunning and impressive. It would be a shame to let one bigger fish overshadow everything else that made the summer memorable.

That’s part of the appeal of rudd fishing for me. The weight gives you one reason to remember a catch, but those golden colours give you another. A beautiful two-pounder is still a fish worth stopping to appreciate, regardless of what else you might catch during the season.
Not every trip has to be about a specimen
I don’t always target specimen fish. Sometimes it’s enough simply to be out fishing and enjoying whatever comes along. This summer, though, I was looking for something particularly special, so landing that 3lb 1oz rudd meant a great deal. For anyone interested in more on the species, my rudd fishing tips are another place to start reading.

More than a number on the scales
I like that fishing leaves room for both approaches: enjoying the bites without worrying about size, and occasionally setting your sights on a bigger fish. That variety is also why I enjoy exploring different coarse fish species. There’s always something else to appreciate, and a memorable catch doesn’t have to be your biggest.
For now, I’m delighted to share this golden rudd, with those lovely twos still to come. A mention, too, for Korum and Sonubaits, both tagged in my original update. Hope you had a great weekend and managed some time on the bank!
