Golden Perch on a 7cm Scent Shad

Golden Perch on a 7cm Scent Shad — now there’s something I never expected to be writing about! Just when I thought I’d seen it all, a couple of bright yellow little perch and a return visit delivered a proper golden pot of treasure. Nothing like this was ever on my radar, which made it all the more special.

A couple of little yellow gangsters
The other day I posted a short video of a small, bright golden perch caught randomly while I was out on the bank. It wasn’t something I’d set out to find. In fact, I caught a couple of these unusual little yellow gangsters, and that alone would have been enough to make the trip memorable.

Then I got a follow from a decent one! Seeing a bigger golden fish behind the lure suddenly gave me something very definite to come back for. A follow isn’t a fish in the net, of course, but it certainly leaves you wondering what another chance might bring.
Back for another chance
The next day I returned to the same spot. After just a few chucks, it was in my net: a nice big golden pot of treasure. Wow! From an unexpected encounter with a couple of small fish to landing a bigger one the following day — what a lovely little sequence of surprises.

I’m describing the colour here rather than claiming a different species or a particular cause for it. Whatever the explanation, this was a perch that really stood out.
The lure behind the golden moment
The lure was a 7cm Scent Shad in Green Pumpkin, with a shout-out to Fox Rage. No need to dress this up as a complicated tactical breakthrough: the important details were the follow, the return to the same spot and those few casts that turned anticipation into a fish in the net.

You never know what comes next
Isn’t fishing incredible? You can head out expecting an ordinary session and come home with a memory you couldn’t possibly have planned. This wasn’t about chasing a target weight or ticking off an ambition. It was simply an unexpected, beautiful fish that made me stop and say, “Wow!” Love it!
