Dorset Wrasse Fishing with Texas Rigged Creature Baits

Dorset wrasse fishing with Texas rigged creature baits has given me a cracking fish from a spot I’d never caught wrasse from before. You certainly have to work harder here than in Cornwall for the decent ones, in my experience, but when one finally comes along, it feels really special. This one meant a lot, and not just because of the fishing.
A home from home on the Jurassic Coast
Several generations of my family are from Dorset. It’s where I went on holiday as a child, and it’s where I’ve taken my own kids time after time. There’s something lovely about returning to a place that has been part of family life for so long.
Putting the rods to one side, it’s simply somewhere I love to be. Dorset feels like a home from home, and I still enjoy spending as much time as possible on the Jurassic Coast. Catching a decent wrasse adds to that enjoyment, but it isn’t the only reason I keep coming back.
Giving a promising wrasse spot another go
This particular spot has always looked so good. Despite that, I’d never actually caught a wrasse from it. I had to give it another go, and I’m very glad I did. Finally getting a cracking fish from somewhere that had kept me wondering made the result all the more satisfying.
My Cornwall wrasse fishing trips provide a useful comparison, but Dorset has its own appeal. Working harder for those better fish certainly makes me appreciate them when everything comes together.
Texas rigged creature baits doing the business
Texas rigged creature baits were doing the business on this visit. It wasn’t just the one fish either: I managed a couple more wrasse. They weren’t as big, but they were equally special.
For anyone more familiar with my perch fishing with creature baits, this is another setting in which those lure styles can be put to use. The Texas rig offers a way to present a creature bait with the hook point tucked away, helping reduce snagging around rough ground, although no presentation is completely snag-proof.
A nod, too, to Fox Rage, tagged in my original session update.
Another reason to return to Dorset
This session was a lovely addition to my Dorset wrasse adventures. A place full of family memories, a promising spot finally producing, and three special fish: that’s plenty to make me want to return. The biggest was a cracking wrasse, but the setting and the connection to Dorset made it mean that little bit more.
