New Video - Beginners Guide to Perch Fishing

New Video Live – Beginners Guide to Perch Fishing With Lures. My latest perch project is out now, and this has been a significant one for me. I wanted to strip everything back to the fundamentals, share my love of lure fishing and encourage more anglers, and non-anglers, to give it a go.

    Lure fishing needn't be complicated

You don't need a van full of tackle, hundreds of lures or years of experience. A simple setup, a handful of lures and a bit of confidence are enough to get started. That's the message behind this video: making those first steps feel approachable rather than overwhelming.

If you're normally a carp or coarse angler, this is a brilliant way to get your fishing fix while being a bit more mobile. I love being able to travel light and explore. My guide to perch fishing tips offers more reading if you're keen to get going.

Back to basics with rigs and tackle

In the video, I run through setting up the gear, tying braid to fluorocarbon, choosing jigheads and lures, rigging weedless and when to use a trace. Basically, it's everything I'd talk you through if we were out fishing together for the day, without assuming you already know the jargon.

Seeing how the components fit together can make things much clearer than simply looking at packets of tackle. If the rig shown here catches your eye, I've also covered dropshot fishing for perch. There's no need to master every presentation before enjoying your first session.

    Short sessions, plenty to learn

Alongside the tackle, I share simple tips on technique and watercraft. Choosing where to cast matters just as much as choosing what to cast. For another look at putting those ideas into practice, have a read of catching perch with lures on the canal.

Those stripes and red fins never get old.

For me, the appeal is simple: perch on light lure gear, short sessions slotted into a busy life and getting outdoors whenever possible. You don't have to turn every outing into a major expedition. Sometimes, the chance to grab the essentials and make a few casts is exactly what you need.
